POSITION: Bus Aide

REPORTS TO: SPED Program Coordinator

 

JOB GOAL: To assist the bus driver in providing safe, smoothly-functioning bus environment

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The length, terms, and conditions of the individual employment contracts will be determined annually by the Board of Education upon recommendation by the Administration. Other benefits and work conditions are as per established Board of Education policies.

 

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated by the administration in accordance with the Board policy on evaluation of noncertified employees.



PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Assist the bus driver in performing duties which may be clerical, supervisory, or maintenance in nature.
  2. Assist the bus driver in overseeing individual and group student behavior and in maintaining an orderly bus environment.
  3. Assist individual students on and off the bus.
  4. Assist individual students getting seatbelt on and off.
  5. Communicate daily performance and observations with parents.
  6. Appropriately place students in car seat/safety restraint systems.
  7. Report signs/symptoms of seizure activity.
  8. Collect any data regarding student behavior or health issues, such as seizure activity.
  9. Assist students with putting on coats, hats, gloves, and with retrieval of book bags and other school materials.
  10. Check school calendar daily for route planning.
  11. Supervise student behavior on the bus and report to parents and school staff.
  12. Assist students with health needs while in transport.
  13. Assist students ambulate on and off the school bus and into/ out of seats.
  14. Specific responsibilities for a given assignment to be determined by the IEP Team and the SPED Coordinator based upon the needs of the individual student, the type and number of students involved, and the skills and desire of the involved staff.
  15. Other reasonable duties as assigned by the SPED Coordinator and building principal.
